Definition and Function
Definition: Conveyor rollers are important components of belt conveyors. They are usually cylindrical and consist of parts such as the shaft, hub and barrel. They drive the conveyor belt to run through rotation, realizing the transportation of materials.
- Function
- Driving Function: As a key component for power transmission, it is driven by a driving device such as a motor to rotate, and then drives the conveyor belt to move through the friction with the conveyor belt, enabling the materials to be transferred from one place to another on the conveyor belt.
- Bearing Function: It bears the weight of the conveyor belt and the materials on it. Especially under heavy load conditions, it needs to have sufficient strength and rigidity to ensure the stable operation of the conveyor.
- Direction Changing Function: It can change the running direction of the conveyor belt, enabling the conveyor belt to move in a circular path as planned, meeting the needs of different conveying processes.
Classification
- Classification by Driving Mode
- Driving Roller: It is connected to the driving device and directly provides power to drive the conveyor belt to run. Usually, the surface will be specially treated, such as rubber coating, etc., to increase the friction with the conveyor belt, prevent slipping, and ensure the effective transmission of power.
- Driven Roller: It is not directly connected to the driving device, but rotates passively under the drive of the conveyor belt. It mainly plays the role of supporting and changing the running direction of the conveyor belt, ensuring the smooth operation of the conveyor belt.
- Classification by Structure
- Smooth Roller: It has a smooth cylindrical surface, simple structure and convenient manufacturing. It is suitable for some occasions where the friction requirement of the conveyor belt is not high, the conveyed materials are light and the environment is relatively clean.
- Rubber-Coated Roller: A layer of rubber or other wear-resistant and anti-slip materials is coated on the surface of the roller, which can significantly increase the friction between the roller and the conveyor belt, enhance the transmission effect, and at the same time play a certain buffering and protection role, reducing the wear of the conveyor belt. It is often used in working conditions with large conveying capacity, heavy materials or high anti-slip requirements.
- Cast Rubber Roller: The rubber material is directly cast on the surface of the roller through a special process, making the rubber and the roller base more closely combined, having better wear resistance and anti-aging performance, and being able to adapt to harsher working environments.
- Classification by Purpose
- Drive Roller: It is mainly used to transmit power, transferring the power of the driving device to the conveyor belt. It is the core component to ensure the normal operation of the conveyor. Its diameter, torque and other parameters are designed according to the conveying capacity and power requirements of the conveyor.
- Redirecting Roller: It is used to change the running direction of the conveyor belt, enabling the conveyor belt to be conveyed at different positions and angles. According to the requirements of the actual conveying line, it can be divided into horizontal redirecting rollers, vertical redirecting rollers and other types.
- Tensioning Roller: It functions in the conveyor belt tensioning device. By adjusting the position of the tensioning roller, the conveyor belt is kept under appropriate tension to prevent the conveyor belt from slipping or loosening during operation, ensuring the normal operation of the conveyor belt and transmission efficiency.
Materials and Manufacturing Processes
- Materials
- Roller Barrel: Generally made of high-quality carbon steel or alloy steel, such as Q235, Q345, etc., to ensure that the roller has sufficient strength and rigidity to withstand various loads during the conveying process. For some special occasions, stainless steel or other corrosion-resistant materials are also used.
- Roller Shaft: Usually, medium carbon steel or medium carbon alloy steel such as 45 steel or 40Cr is selected. Through heat treatment processes such as quenching and tempering, the comprehensive mechanical properties of the shaft are improved to ensure that it has good wear resistance and anti-fatigue performance when transmitting torque and bearing loads.
- Rubber Coating Material: Common rubber coating materials include natural rubber, nitrile rubber, neoprene, etc. These rubber materials have good elasticity, wear resistance and anti-slip performance. In addition, some use new materials such as polyurethane for rubber coating to meet higher performance requirements.
- Manufacturing Processes
- Barrel Processing: First, roll the steel plate into a cylindrical barrel through a plate rolling machine, and then carry out welding, rounding and other processes to ensure the dimensional accuracy and roundness of the barrel. After welding, nondestructive testing of the welds, such as ultrasonic testing and radiographic testing, is required to ensure the quality of the welds.
- Shaft Processing: The processing of the shaft requires multiple processes such as blanking, roughing, heat treatment and finishing. In the finishing process, CNC lathes, grinders and other equipment are used to ensure the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness of the shaft to meet the fit requirements with the roller barrel and bearings.
- Assembly: Assemble the processed barrel and shaft, usually using interference fit or key connection to ensure a firm and reliable connection between the two. Then install components such as bearings and seals to complete the overall assembly of the roller.
- Rubber Coating Treatment: For rollers that need rubber coating, the rubber coating treatment is carried out after assembly. There are two rubber coating processes: cold bonding and hot vulcanization. The cold bonding method is simple to operate and has a lower cost, but the bonding strength is relatively low; the hot vulcanization method has high bonding strength and long service life, but the process is complex and the cost is high.
